Summary
West Salem Machinery is in search of a self-directed and experienced Controller to oversee its financial and accounting activities. This leadership role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including budget management, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting/management, tax & compliance management, banking and reconciliation, and accounting oversite of finance department staff, including accounts payable and accounts receivable. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, analytical professional who excels in a dynamic teamwork environment. They will possess a proven track record of effectively collaborating with senior management and communicating complex financial information to leadership at all levels.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervisory Responsibilities – Oversees the operations of the staff accounting functions, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, general reconciliations, sales tax reporting, and payroll.
- Prepare and present accurate monthly financial reports in a timely manner with monthly virtual meetings reporting results to corporate in Sweden and upload of monthly financial information into the corporate financial consolidation software.
- Cost accounting functions for parts and equipment sales (including incorporation of “percent complete” accounting data).
- Monitor the financial performance of the company and work with senior management team to improve overall business performance.
- Provide data and input into the annual operating budget.
- Provide data and input into the quarterly operating forecasts.
- Biannual overhead rate calculation and integration into the ERP system.
- Fixed asset accounting and register maintenance
- Sales tax review and compliance, Oregon CAT tax review and compliance.
- Support CPA firm in annual audit of company financials.
- Lead the annual audits of insurance and worker’s comp insurance programs.
- Understand and leverage the company’s ERP system to aid in and ensure accuracy of essential data required to execute accounting functions.
- Provide administrative and oversight functions for the corporate credit card program.
- Develop and manage financial controls and processes in accordance with the company’s procedures
- Maintain and develop policies/procedures for the company’s accounting related functions.
- Train accounting personnel in assigned tasks.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related discipline.
- Accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA or CA), or an equivalent combination of related experience and education preferred.
- Minimum 10 years accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role.
- Strong ERP (Global Shop or similar ERP) and Excel Spreadsheet skills.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, calculator, phone, paperwork, etc.
- Must be able to stand, walk up to several hundred feet, climb stairs, bend, lift and carry up to 15 lbs.
Working Conditions
Indoor office environment. May be exposed to distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment.
Typical Hours/Shift
Full Time: hours set within Company operational hours at time of hire. (Company operational hours are from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday)
